In this issue
THE VOICE OF springtime calls us from the winter darkness
and slumber to “awaken.”
Such imagery is a potent reminder that we are indeed
spiritual beings. We might ask ourselves: Where in my life do I
need to awaken? What in my life—in myself, my relationships,
my work, my family or even my health—requires the gift of
awakening and looking with new eyes? In this springtime edition
of
Health Connection
, I invite you to ponder such questions—
to awaken with eyes wide open.
When we awaken to reflect upon daily life, we quickly
discover deep and profound connections among family, work, personal faith,
spirituality and health. Each dimension of life is part of the whole, and each affects
the other. By exploring these connections, we awaken to a new and renewed sense of
ourselves, our lives and our health. We might think of how these various dimensions of
our lives could be a resource for our health or our struggles with health.
Spiritual exploration can feed and inform the journey. In my 30 years as a health
care chaplain, I have always been struck by how a health crisis can turn life upside
down. I am often engaged in how we might bring the resources of our families,
relationships, faith, work and spirituality to awaken our motivation for improving our
health.
The spirit of healing is awake within PeaceHealth and our exceptional caregivers as
we endeavor to provide health care that attends to body, mind and spirit.
We invite you to awaken to hope, healing and health. Most important, to the courage
within to take that next step in the care you most deserve. We are here for you.
